A recipe for German cookies.

Ingredients

  • 250 grams of plain flour
  • 90 grams of sugar
  • 125 grams of Butter
  • 1 Egg

Preparation

  1. Put the flour and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Add the butter in small pieces and the egg and knead into a shortcrust pastry.
  3. Shape the dough into a large ball and wrap in foil and cool for at least half an hour.
  4. Heat the oven to 175 degrees top and bottom heat.
  5. Halve the dough ball (one half back in the refrigerator) and roll out on a baking mat or lightly floured work surface.
  6. Cut out cookies and place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 the same with the second portion of dough. Knead the leftovers together again and again and cool again briefly until you have no more dough left..
  8. Brush the biscuits with a whisked egg yolk as desired (see tips).
  9. Bake until golden for about 10-12 minutes, depending on the thickness.
  10. Let it cool down before removing them from the tray and decorating with icing, decorative sprinkles etc.
